The Tongue

Matthew 12:34b -37

vs. 34b "For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.
vs. 35 "The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good, and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.
vs. 36 "But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.
vs. 37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Romans 10:8-10
vs. 8 "But what does it say? 'The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' -that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,
vs. 9 "That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
vs. 10 "For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."

What can we find from these verses?

1. What comes out comes from within.

2. We will have to give an accounting for every word we speak!
James 3:2-12 "The tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity" "The tongue...defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life/existence, and is set on fire by hell." "no one can tame the tongue, it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison."
We need to think before we speak! Every word we say must come through the 'door of love-' if we are loving, we will not let out words that are unkind, impatient, ungentle, unedifying, cruel, nor words that put others down or critisize them or may have a negative effect on the way they live and think from hence forward.
For every careless word we will have to answer! Yikes- this brings more drastict weight to the matter. We need to carefully guard our tongue!

3. By our words we are justified, or condemned.
The Saving Word is near us, in our mouths- we can choose heaven or hell by the words we speak. We can choose to live or die by the words we speak! We must acknowledge Jesus as Lord and believing in Him- voice our belief in Him- and thus have our place in heaven. If we do not, then naturally we will spent eternity in hell. It's really that simple!
We can choose to live a good life- life abundantly- or life that is not God's best. We need to speak into our lives according to what the Bible says- confess over ourselves that we are made righteous through His sacrifice for us, confess the Scriptures. "The love of God in me is patient, kind..." or "I am growing in wisdom and in favor with God and man...", to name a few examples. We can make or break our lives by what we speak. If we speak, "Oh, it's going to be a terrible day today and I will be grumpy the whole day" then guess how our day is going to be?
Proverbs 18:21- "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."
